A Holts Summit man received severe injuries early today when the pickup truck he was driving overturned near the Missouri River bridge in Jefferson City.
Police responded around 12:54 a.m. to the one-vehicle crash in the 200 block of the northbound lanes of U.S. 54/63, just south of the bridge. The northbound truck reportedly lost control and slid off the road to the left where it struck a guard rail. It then overturned, landing on its roof.
The driver - Richard J. Berendzen, 48 - was transported to Capital Region Medical Center by Cole County EMS.
Police report he was wearing his seat belt at the time of the wreck. Investigators suspect alcohol to be a contributing circumstance to the crash.
