Route 240 in Fayette now open

Missouri Route 240 between Davis and Morrison streets in Fayette is now open to two-way traffic after being closed for several days due to debris on the road and demolition of a nearby building.

Motorists should still use caution in the area as a lane shift and a temporary stop sign will remain in place until the demolition work is complete.

The debris came from the collapse of the second story of a building located at 114-116 North Church Street and a roof collapse on an adjacent building located at 118 North Church Street. Heavy snow apparently caused the collapses.

Missouri Department of Transportation crews removed the debris, but kept the road closed to ensure motorists' safety while the second story of the building at 114-116 North Church Street was demolished.
