Cars from Honda and Ford and blue cheese chicken dip are among this week's recalled consumer products. Here's a more detailed look:
HONDA
DETAILS: Honda is urging the owners of more than 686,000 Fit and Jazz subcompacts worldwide to park them outside because the power window switches can catch fire. The company said it is recalling Fit and Jazz cars from the 2007 and 2008 model years. It's telling owners not to park them in garages until driver's side door switches can be inspected.
WHY: Honda said water can get inside the door through an open window and damage the switches, causing them to overheat and potentially sparking a fire.
INCIDENTS: The company said the problem hasn't caused any injuries, but spokesman Chris Martin said seven switches have melted and two caused fires in the doors. No structure fires have been reported, he said.
HOW MANY: The recall covers more than 143,000 Fits in the U.S. and about 35,000 in Canada. The Fit and Jazz are the same car, but sold under different names in different markets.
FOR MORE: The repairs will be made for free. Honda will start notifying owners about the recall in mid-July. People with questions can call Honda at (800) 999-1009.
FORD
DETAILS: Ford is recalling just over 13,000 Explorer, Taurus and Lincoln MKS cars and SUVs because the child safety locks may not work on the rear doors. The recall affects 2013 model cars sold mainly in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The recall covers cars and SUVs built from Nov. 29 to Dec. 12 of last year. Dealers will test the locks and replace door latches if needed at no cost to owners.
WHY: Ford says the safety locks can be turned off when the doors are opened or closed. That could allow a door to be opened with the inside door handle and possibly hurt a child.
INCIDENTS: The company says no injuries have been reported from the problem.
HOW MANY: More than 13,000.
CHICKEN DIP
DETAILS: South Florida-based ECRS LLC is recalling 12,560 pounds of chicken dip products because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The products subject to recall include 8-oz. containers with 16 pieces per case of "BUBBA'S Buffalo Blue Cheese Chicken Dip" bearing the establishment number "P-21299" inside the USDA mark of inspection. Also being recalled are 16-oz. containers with 8 pieces per case of "BUBBA'S Buffalo Blue Cheese Chicken Dip" bearing the establishment number "P-21299" inside the USDA mark of inspection with expiration dates from June 25 to Sep. 24, 2013. The products were distributed to retail grocery stores and through Internet/catalog sales in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri and Ohio.
WHY: The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said the products contain anchovies, a known allergen which is not declared on the label.
INCIDENTS: The company says it has received no reports of adverse reaction.
HOW MANY: About 12,560 pounds.
