Other changes in works for Catholic school system

St. Peter Interparish School will have a new principal with the hire of Gayle Trachsel.

Starting July 1, Trachsel - who was the principal at Our Lady of the Snows School in Mary's Home for 10 years - will replace Joseph Gulino, who is retiring.

Trachsel has a master's degree in elementary education from William Woods University and has served previously in the Miller County and Eldon school districts. Her children will soon be attending the St. Peter and Helias schools.

Diocese leaders also have appointed two leaders to replace Superintendent Don Novotney, who also is retiring. In a news release issued earlier this month, the diocese reported Father Joseph Corel and Chancellor Sister Kathleen Wegman have been named interim director and interim assistant director of the Catholic schools, effective July 1.

"They are in the process now of putting together a Diocesan-wide school advisory board, and that group will be involved in a search process for a new superintendent," said Joyce.

Joyce estimated that Corel and Wegman will serve in an interim capacity for at least the next school year.

He noted the school system had both a superintendent and an assistant superintendent prior to Novotney's tenure. The diocese is returning to that structure, he said.
