Letters spelling out names of dead stolen

BRIDGETON, Mo. (AP) - Police in St. Louis County are investigating the theft of bronze letters that spell out the names of the dead at a mausoleum.

KMOV-TV (http://bit.ly/14BSigh ) reports that the theft occurred at Valhalla Cemetery in north St. Louis County. It isn't clear why the letters were stolen, but copper thefts are common in the St. Louis area. KMOV says bronze can be scrapped for cash - about $1.75 per pound. Copper sells for up to $3 per pound.

St. Louis County law requires those selling scrap metal to show identification, and buyers must keep electronic records.
