Police probe reports of shots fired near park

Jefferson City police are investigating a weapons violation that occurred Tuesday night in the 900 block of East Miller Street.

Police reports show communications personnel began receiving calls on both the 911 lines and the department's administrative line at 8:54 p.m. When the first officers arrived, they contacted several people at the Miller Street Park.

The people denied hearing gunshots in the area, but stated a large group had been fighting just before officers arrived.

There were no cooperative witnesses in the area of the park, officers said.

A canvas of the area produced several spent shell casings, but no property damage or injuries were reported.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jefferson City Police Department at 634-6400 or anonymously through CrimeStoppers at 659-TIPS (659-8477).
