Post 5 Seniors run streak to 20

WASHINGTON - Only the weather could slow down the Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors.

Competing in the Washington Wood Bat Showcase, the Seniors won their 20th straight game to start the season by beating Jackson 9-6 in the semifinals.

But they wouldn't get a chance for 21, as the championship game was rained out.

In the semifinal, Post 5 broke rallied from a 6-5 deficit by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Trevor Schnieders had a single, triple and three RBI to pace the offense, while Daniel Castillo had two hits and one RBI. Patrick Schnieders chipped in with a double and one RBI, while Logan Bax and Nolan Bax had one hit and one RBI each.

Collin Brinker got the win in relief of Garrett Haslag. Haslag worked the first six innings, giving up five earned runs on six hits while walking two and striking out two.

Brinker followed with two innings of one-hit work. He gave up one earned run with one walk and four strikeouts. Cole Distler pitched the seventh to get the save, walking two but not allowing a hit.

Post 5 returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Moberly.
