Hay fire destroys shed off S. Country Club Drive

The cause for a fire that destroyed a shed full of hay near the western Jefferson City limits early Thursday morning is under investigation.

According to Jefferson City Fire Department reports, the fire was reported at 1048 S. Country Club Drive shortly after midnight.

Callers to 911 had said it looked like a house was on fire, but when crews arrived they found it was a 24x40 foot shed, sitting off the road about 100 yards and it was fully engulfed.

Firefighters said hay fires are among the most difficult to put out.

They were on the scene to about 3 a.m. and an hour later were called back when the fire rekindled.

The last crews cleared the scene after their second run around 6 a.m.

Ameren Missouri crews were called to deal with arching power lines near the scene.

No injuries were reported.
