JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri Senate committee plans to study the state's construction needs while the House will create two panels to focus on the Medicaid program for the poor.
Senate leader Tom Dempsey, a Republican from St. Charles, created an interim committee for capital improvements. The committee is to submit a report by December that will focus on needs at state parks, mental health facilities, state buildings and college campuses.
Lawmakers considered a state bonding package earlier this year to pay for those types of projects. The proposal passed the House but not the Senate.
In addition, House Speaker Tim Jones is scheduled to announce Thursday the creation of two interim committees for Medicaid. The Senate already has formed an interim committee focused on Medicaid.
