A Jefferson City man is in the Cole County Jail on $15,000 bond after being caught following a burglary at an apartment in Cole County.
Court records show Matthew Cavin, 33, is charged with first-degree burglary and resisting arrest.
A Cole County Sheriff's Department report shows as deputies tried to serve arrest warrants on Cavin at an apartment in the 1600 block of South Country Club Drive, he jumped out of a second-story window and fled the scene.
Deputies gave chase and Cavin jumped several fences while running through back yards along South Country Club.
He headed toward the Westview Heights area, and it was later learned Cavin had run into an apartment in the 5200 block of Scruggs Station Road that was being renovated.
An employee with a property management office was in the apartment and Cavin told him he was running from the law.
The employee allowed Cavin to stay while he secretly called his supervisor, who then called 911.
The employee then left the apartment and Cavin secured the front and back doors in an attempt to keep deputies out, but they were able to force open a door and eventually took him into custody.
Cavin later told deputies he ran because he knew he had active warrants against him.
"I'm not going to come knock on your door and tell you I have warrants," he told deputies. "You've got to catch me first."
