BizBeat: Feel of tropics coming to town

Jonny Ver Planck has set out to bring something new to Jefferson City. The 301 Ash St. property, nestled in by Prison Brews and The Mission, will offer up a tropical theme and relaxing atmosphere. Shrunken Head Tropic Lounge will blend the Hawaiian, South Pacific, Caribbean with American Tiki cultures while serving hand-poured cocktails made with real juice and top-quality liquors.

The island mentality is what this entrepreneur hopes to offer up to Jefferson Citians.

"No politics, no religion, no sports, no news, just all good times and happy drinks," Ver Planck said.

Originally from California and having lived in Belize for a time, Ver Planck hopes to mix many cultures from his travels around the world. Ver Planck is in the entertainment business, but also owns a distillery at Les Bourgeois. His new business, which is set to open in early July, will showcase his other businesses. Ver Planck said he plans to name drinks after those in the music industry he has worked closely with, as well.

At this time, the storefront is getting new plumbing and electrical, and will get a fresh look featuring bamboo and custom-made pieces to fit the worldly theme. Shrunken Head will be open Thursdays through Saturdays and will also be available for private parties throughout the week.
