Concord pastor readies second trip to Oklahoma disaster zone

June 7th, 2013 in News

Concord Baptist Church has announced its plans to return to Oklahoma with the disaster supplies donated by Mid-Missouri residents last month.

"We left with a truck load of supplies on Friday, May 31st according to plan," said Peter Livingston, executive pastor at Concord. "By the time we reached Joplin, the ferocity of the storms in Oklahoma offered us no route into the area."

The team turned back and immediately began to check on the well-being of those who were to receive them and the supplies.

"We found that everyone we were making contact with was in a storm shelter and experiencing one of the wildest storm nights ever in Oklahoma," Livingston said.

Recognizing that the need now is even greater than the need was when this project was first planned, the team plans to return on June 14 to make their delivery.

"We have to get them help." said Livingston. "Just when the needed supplies were getting to the field, this second deadly storm came down on Oklahoma. We have to get there to help."

Beginning Monday at 8:30 a.m. a disaster relief donation room will open again for the Mid-Missouri community at Concord, 3724 W. Truman Blvd.

All donated items must be in excellent

condition, preferably new.

The list of items needed remains the same with one addition, plastic tubs with lids.

The rest of the needed items list includes bottled water, baby formula, new baby bottles, diapers, rakes, shovels, tarps, work gloves, underwear, socks sizes infant to 3x, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and cash.

Donation times are Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

No donations will be received on June 15 or June 16.
