Another Major League Baseball draft, another Missouri Tiger pitcher taken early.

The Tigers' Rob Zastryzny continued a line of success for Missouri hurlers when he was taken with the 41st overall pick on the draft's first day by the Chicago Cubs.

The junior left-hander was taken with the second selection of the second round, the highest selection for Missouri since pitchers Aaron Crow and Kyle Gibson were both taken in the first round of the 2009 draft.

Zastryzny, the Tigers' No. 1 starter, went just 2-9 this season but did post a 3.38 ERA in 13 starts. He allowed 93 hits and struck out 82 batters in 902⁄3 innings of work, and opponents hit just .266 against him. He threw three complete games.

The Tigers had four players taken in last year's draft, with Blake Brown being the highest by going in the fifth round.

Missouri likely lost a future Tiger, as signee Devin Williams was taken 13 picks after Zastryzny. Williams, a right-handed pitcher and a recent graduate of Hazelwood West High School, went to the Milwaukee Brewers with the 54th overall selection.
