Westminster College President Barney Forsythe and his wife, Jane, have volunteered to serve as honorary campaign chairs for the 2013-14 Callaway County United Way fundraising campaign.

Forsythe has been president of Westminster College since 2008. The Forsythes moved to Fulton in 2005.

"It's not only an honor to be asked," Jane Forsythe said, "but a wonderful opportunity for Barney and me to give back to our community. The United Way is a powerful force for change in Callaway County and we want to help in any way we can."

Forsythe said both he and his wife are eager to begin the campaign.

"We look to the leadership of the United Way," he said, "to point us in the direction that we do the most good for this campaign and the community we call home."

The Forsythes are the third honorary chairs of the Callaway County United Way Campaign.

Debbie LaRue of The Callaway Bank served as the first campaign chairperson in 2011-12.

Last year Charlie James of Fulton, an outfielder for the 1964 World's Champion St. Louis Cardinals, and his wife Jo, served as honorary chairs.

The Callaway County United Way partners with 14 local agencies to provide more than 200 programs and services to people in need in Callaway County.

Kathy Richey Liddle, executive director of the Callaway County United Way, said 100 percent of tax-deductible donations stay in the county and go directly to those who need help the most.
