Workers for a company doing utility work at the Hotel Governor building tried to stop a man from jumping off the side of a nearby parking garage Saturday afternoon.
According to the Jefferson City Police Department, at approximately 4:40 p.m., two witnesses saw the man walking along the edge of the top floor of the parking structure at 201 Madison St., acting as if he were going to jump.
As they approached the man in an attempt to keep him from going over the side, he jumped.
Responding officers found the man, who suffered head trauma, lying face down on the News Tribune's parking lot, located on the east side of the parking garage.
He was taken to a Jefferson City hospital for treatment, then transferred to University Hospital in Columbia because of the serious nature of his injuries.
Officials are not identifying the man pending notification of his family.
