Post 5 defeats Lee's Summit 1-0

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - Collin Brinker and a little extra-inning magic sent the Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors to the semifinals of the Fike Wood Bat Tournament.

Post 5 used a 1-0 nine-inning victory against the Lee's Summit Outlaws to advance to the final four.

Set to be a seven-inning affair, superb pitching on both sides sent the game into extra frames.

Brinker's eight innings of work, which saw him allow just two hits while striking out six, eventually led the North Callaway product to picking up the win.

Post 5 scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning. Cole Distler led off with a single up the middle, moved to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a sacrifice fly from Trevor Schnieders.

Patrick Schnieders then followed with the game-winning single to right on an 0-2 pitch to score Distler. Distler was the only Senior with multiple hits, also recording a double earlier in the contest.

Distler earned the save by pitching a perfect bottom of the ninth.

Post 5 (31-4) resumes tournament play at 11 a.m. today.
