NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo. - Changes in street resurfacing and stormwater construction projects were approved Thursday night by the Board of Aldermen.
Representatives of Allstate Engineers of Columbia, an engineering consulting firm hired by the city to supervise the street and stormwater improvements, recommended a $73,187 change order to the contract for the $292,864 street construction project.
The board was told the changes were needed because of unsuitable street subgrades and desired improvements encountered in early stages of the construction project. The board was told the recommended changes would make the streets perform better and last longer.
The streets involved in the change order are Chevy Chase Lane, Elm Street from Glenwood Street to Route J, Mulberry Street, Cedar Street, Elmwood Circle, Poplar Street, Park Street,
Chestnut Street north of Glenwood Street, south end of Maple Street, Willow Drive west of State Route AE, Willow Drive east of Route AE, Oak Street, Country Club Drive, and Joshua Street.
The work is contracted by the city to Higgins Asphalt Paving Co. Inc., Tipton. The board agreed unanimously to approve the change order to the construction contract.
The board also approved unanimously a new ordinance setting restrictions and establishing requirements for exclusive use during daily rental of the city's newly constructed park pavilion.
The pavilion is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day of the year. But for special or large family one-day events where exclusive use of the pavilion is desired, the board established a rental fee of $25, including the use of electricity, water and other facilities at the pavilion.
Applications for the pavilion permit can be obtained at City Hall, 501 Glenwood St. Reasonable use restrictions apply.
The ordinance also makes it illegal to camp in the park overnight or erect any structures. It also is illegal to climb any park tree or walk, stand or sit on monuments or fences.
City Superintendent Mike Rieken reported the city is in the process of surveying the city's sewer system. Rieken said some areas have been identified that will need work and other areas are performing well. He said the city has completed the spring flushing of the city's water system and sampling of the system.
He said the city's wastewater system is operating in compliance with state regulations. He added that he sent a letter to the New Bloomfield R-3 School District outlining modifications made to sewer mains.
The board promoted Greg Mooney to the position of police patrol sergeant, and officer Andy Goetz was promoted to the rank of corporal in the New Bloomfield Police Department.
