Fresh off their second state baseball title in school history, the Fatima Comets reaped the benefits of those accomplishments by landing three players on the all-state baseball teams released today.
The teams, selected by the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association, boast eight area players.
Fatima is the only area school with multiple selections, headed up by first-teamers Patrick Schnieders and Seth Lehmen.
Schnieders, a senior who made the team at pitcher, went 8-0 on the mound this past season, including a win in the state championship game against Springfield Catholic. He racked up 74 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched and had an ERA of 1.67. At the plate, he hit .534 with four home runs and had 34 RBI in 28 games.
Lehmen, a senior selected for the DH/utility spot, went 9-2 as a pitcher with a 3.90 ERA. He struck out 55 in 56 innings. As a batter, he hit .400 with two homers and 28 RBI.
Also making the team for the Comets was junior Reid Kesel, a second-team pick as an infielder. He hit .377 and had two home runs and 31 RBI.
Helias' Trevor Schnieders, a second-team pick at DH/utility, was the only area player to make the Class 5 squad. The senior batted .418 for the season and was the ace of the pitching staff, racking up a record of 7-1 while posting an ERA of 1.68 in 56 innings on the mound.
Others making the teams in Class 3 were Blair Oaks senior Jacob Koelling and Versailles senior Parker Bolton, both second-team picks. Koelling, who made it as a pitcher, went 7-0 with a 0.76 ERA while striking out 65 in 46 innings. Bolton, a DH/utility pick, hit .512 with a slugging percentage of 1.000. Playing shortstop when he wasn't pitching, he made just two errors all season. On the mound, he struck out 68 while walking 19 in 35 innings to go with an ERA of 3.86.
There were two first-team picks in Class 2, Tipton's Riley Brant and Russellville's Chandler Wolf. Brant, who made it as an infielder, hit a whopping .630 with a slugging percentage of 1.167 and drove in 25 runs. Wolf, a DH/utility selection, hit .425 with three home runs and 30 RBI. He also stole 16 bases. As a pitcher, he went 5-2 with five saves and posted an ERA of 1.40. He struck out 96 batters in 56 innings of work.
