BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors got off to a sizzling start in the Fike Wood Bat Tournament on Wednesday.
Post 5 earned an 8-0 five-inning victory over St. Joseph.
Jacob Koelling picked up the win by tossing all five innings and allowing six hits while striking out six.
Patrick Schnieders went 3-for-3 with three RBI and Daniel Castillo went 2-for-3 with two RBI to pace the Seniors' attack.
Schnieders provided all the offense Post 5 needed with an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning. Castillo then made it 3-0 in the second with a two-run homer.
Schnieders added another RBI double in the third following a leadoff triple from Cole Distler. Trevor Schnieders and Patrick Schnieders provided RBI singles in the fourth to make it 6-0.
Post 5 added a pair of runs in the fifth thanks to singles from Kyler Maxey and Castillo before a two-base error allowed the pair to score and end the game on a run-rule.
Post 5 continues tournament play at 12:30 p.m. today against West.
