Bailey allows quick hit

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Cincinnati Reds right-hander Homer Bailey lost his bid for consecutive no-hitters when All-Star Jean Segura singled with one out in the first inning for the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night.

Segura dumped a 1-2 pitch into right field for the first hit allowed by Bailey since Josh Donaldson connected for a three-run homer for Oakland in the fourth inning of the Reds' 5-0 loss June 26. Bailey then threw his second career no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over San Francisco last Tuesday.

Johnny Vander Meer remains the only pitcher to throw consecutive no-hitters in major league history. He did the feat for the Reds on June 11 and June 15 in 1938.
