I was pleased to read the opinion piece which ran in the July 1 edition of the News Tribune. It is always a joy to find yourself in the company of like-minded people. As the 19th president of Lincoln University, I have the same imagination, the same dreams the author stated about a strong local alumni chapter - and much more.
I have been in this community for just a little over a month, yet I already feel strong ties to Jefferson City and I am also a proud Lincolnite. The university and the community have made great strides in their partnership in recent years.
I have already met several of our alumni, but I know there are many more out there, many whom I probably encounter on a daily basis. I invite each of you to do just as the article says and join the local alumni chapter. Get involved with your alma mater today. The upcoming convention is a great reason to find yourself back on campus.
I also extend an invitation to those who proudly wear the colors of other institutions. You are welcome at Lincoln University as well. Try on the blue and white and let us be your hometown team. If you really are not into sports, there are so many other options to bring you over. Our students are scholars, actors, musicians, artists and everything in between and they would love to show you what they can do.
So, to our alumni and to our friends, and from the youngest Blue Tiger Cub to those who remember before our Tiger turned blue, I welcome each of you to come and be involved with Lincoln University. Together we can make my dream and the dream of the author of the News Tribune piece a reality.
We can spread Blue Tiger Pride across our community.
