Post 5 Seniors split

FESTUS - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors continued play in the Festus Invitational on Sunday with an 8-4 win against the host team.

Post 5 got all its scoring in two innings, putting three on the board in the bottom of the third and five in the bottom of the sixth.

Adam Grunden led the local team to the win by hitting a pair of doubles and driving in three runs. Cody Stegemann had a single, double and one RBI and Alex Barton drove in a pair of runs.

Austin Sachse got the win in relief of Jason Rackers, giving up one earned run on no hits while walking four and striking out one in 1 1/3 innings. Rackers pitched the first five innings and allowed three unearned runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Stegemann got the final two outs to pick up the save.

Later on Sunday, Post 5 dropped a 5-4 decision to Ste. Genevieve. No details were available at press time.

Post 5 Juniors go 2-1

SEDALIA - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Juniors went 2-1 in the rain-shortened Sedalia Tournament over the weekend.

Post 5 started things out with a 4-1 win against Warrensburg and followed it up with a 5-3 win against Sedalia. The local club then fell 6-3 to Chillicothe.

Post 5 will play in the Blue Springs Wooden Bat Tournament this weekend.
