Your Opinion: Keep shelter focus on animals

Dear Editor:

I am writing in response to the article about the JC Animal Shelter. First, I would like to say I thought I was reading a script for a soap opera. I think the article should have focused more on what improvements are needed at the shelter instead of the "cat fight" between vet and director. I think it is important to remember what is at stake here - the animals.

Jefferson City should be focused on improving the shelter by removing the gas chamber and using a more humane approach that is also more cost effective. I also think that wildlife/feral issues should be the responsibility of the Department of Conservation, which is the wildlife department. I also think that a little tolerance by the community should be focused on. I think people should be made aware what is going to happen to that animal in the cage. I also think Jefferson City should embrace a TNR program into the everyday operation of the shelter.

I know Wild Thing Feline Feral Fix has worked very had on helping people with the feral population and that program works on reducing the number of kittens being born each year. If they were to get help from the shelter they could do even more good work in the community.

I want to implore to the public to not let the human things that are going on keep you from going there to adopt a animal.

Please adopt, don't shop, and get your pets spayed and neutered. It is more cost effective to be responsible then to keep throwing unwanted animals in the shelter.
