JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon has signed legislation that will require state education officials to develop guidelines for school employees to care for students with diabetes.
The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is to work with health officials and others to develop guidelines and adopt rules by next January for training local school employees. School boards can choose to adopt and implement the guidelines. If they do so, their districts will need to ensure at least three employees receive training.
Nixon signed the legislation Wednesday.
The bill also requires state education officials to develop rules for a physical fitness challenge for students. The challenge is to include elements that involve physical conditioning, flexibility, strength and aerobic capacity.
