Council approves Missouri Boulevard sidewalk project

The Jefferson City Council has approved a contract to construct new sidewalks along Missouri Boulevard.

The bill approved at the council meeting Monday authorizes a contract with J.C. Industries for $457,868, though 80 percent of the cost will be covered through a state transportation enhancement grant and the remaining balance will come from the city's half-cent capital improvement sales tax.

The project will construct sidewalks along the southern side of Missouri Boulevard from Heisinger Road to the eastern driveway of the Kohl's development, extending sidewalks constructed last summer that also was funded in part by state grant money.

It also will include sidewalks along the eastern side of Heisinger Road from Missouri Boulevard to the Greenway trail, and along the eastern side of Stadium Boulevard, where it will connect to the existing sidewalk at Target.

Matt Morasch, interim public works director, said the project is expected to be completed by winter.

In other business, 5th Ward Councilman Ralph Bray announced he, and fellow 5th Ward Councilman Larry Henry, would host a meeting for residents of the 5th Ward later this month. Bray said the meeting would be held at McClung Park on July 20 to discuss projects and issues important to the 5th Ward.
