Mo. adds tax form option for cancer research

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri taxpayers soon will have the option of donating to a pediatric cancer research fund.

Legislation signed by Gov. Jay Nixon will add a donation check-off box to state income tax forms, beginning with those for the 2013 tax year.

The bill creating the new cancer research contribution was named Sahara's Law in memory of 13-year-old Sahara Aldridge. The Cape Girardeau girl died of a cancerous brain tumor in 2007.

Missouri already has about 25 check-off contribution options on its tax forms. A legislative report says those trust funds generated an average of $11,800 each during the 2012 fiscal year.
