City receives three conference center proposals

Council to discuss next steps Monday

January 31st, 2013 in News

Jefferson City has received three responses to a request for proposals for a conference center, but no details are being released on who made the proposals.

The city opened bids at 2 p.m. Thursday. Earlier Thursday, City Administrator Nathan Nickolaus made clear that no information would be made public aside from the number of responses received.

In late May, the City Council directed staff to begin drafting an RFP for the conference center concept detailed by Mayor Eric Struemph during the city's town hall meetings last spring. The draft RFP outlines a partnership between the city and hotelier, or developer, to construct an exhibit or banquet hall. The city would provide funding for the construction, set at $9 million, which would come from the lodging tax contributions.
