Spring-like storm smacks Cole County

Ameren line crews worked in the rain Tuesday afternoon to replace a series of poles and restore electricity to business and residences along Business 50 West in St. Martins after Tuesday's high winds caused several poles to blow over and lines to snap. Several roofs were damaged and trees toppled in the storm.
Ameren line crews worked in the rain Tuesday afternoon to replace a series of poles and restore electricity to business and residences along Business 50 West in St. Martins after Tuesday's high winds caused several poles to blow over and lines to snap. Several roofs were damaged and trees toppled in the storm.

Straight-line winds Tuesday afternoon snapped about a half-dozen utility poles, interrupted electrical power to about 200 customers and uprooted a tree that blocked U.S. 50 and Business 50 in the Apache Flats/St. Martin's area.

Seven utility poles were either broken or taken down as the straight-line winds moved through around 12:45 p.m. Straight-line winds are categorized as being 60 mph or greater, according to the National Weather Service office in St. Louis.

The storm also damaged two barns by Route D, south of U.S. 50.
