MEXICO, Mo. (AP) - A northeast Missouri lawyer has been convicted of two felony charges in the hit-and-run death of a man riding a lawn mower.
KXEO-AM reports (http://bit.ly/VuBTdH) James Clampitt, of Mexico, Mo., was found guilty Tuesday after a brief trial of involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.
Richard Cobb died in June 2010, three days after being struck by an SUV while riding the mower on a Mexico street.
Clampitt told KXEO in 2010 he had been driving the SUV but didn't realize until the following day that he had been involved in an accident.
The jury recommended a total sentence of two years and six months in prison. Clampitt will be sentenced April 4 in Chariton County Circuit Court, where the case was moved from Audrain County.
