When Melvin Aungerer of New Bloomfield stopped at Merten's Mini-Mart at 6603 State Road NN in Fulton a few days ago, he thought it would be fun to buy a scratchers lottery ticket.

"I wasn't planning on winning," Aungerer chuckled, "I just scratch because it's fun."

Aungerer, 67, couldn't believe his eyes when he learned he had just won $20,000 after scratching off a ticket he bought for $5 in the Missouri Lottery's $100,000 Crossword game. He plans to use the $20,000 in prize money to buy a new Kawasaki motorcycle.
