The mother of a 9-month-old boy found dead in a Holts Summit mobile home in June 2012 will serve five years in prison after pleading guilty to felony charges in a Callaway County court.
According to court officials, Megan Ayres , 31, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree child endangerment and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
She was sentenced Wednesday.
According to Holts Summit police reports, an emergency call was received from 964 S. Summit Drive, lot 10.
The caller told the dispatcher there was a child who was blue and not breathing. The caller also stated the child was "beyond any help."
Emergency personnel from the Callaway County Ambulance District and the Holts Summit Fire Protection District arrived within minutes and found the 9-month-old dead in a playpen in the home.
There were red marks on the child's face on the right side near the upper cheek and around the right eye. There was also a red mark below the child's lower lip.
It was later determined the child had been deceased for "quite some time" by the time authorities had been called to the scene.
Another child, a 2-year-old girl, was also in the home at the time, but had no injuries when authorities came to the home.
Ayers said the boy was put to bed sometime between 10 and 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 19.
It was at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, that the boy was found lying on his back, not breathing, and was blue.
During further questioning, Ayers admitted to using methamphetamines the day before the baby was found dead.
Investigators removed several needles, a baggy containing a white powdery substance, a baggy containing a brown powdery substance and other items from the residence.
