Tigers look for inspiration to clear hurdles

Trying to figure out a way to describe his team's recent funk, Missouri coach Frank Haith talked about something a motivational speaker recently told his team.

Speaking to the Tigers on Saturday about overcoming adversity in life, motivational speaker Bobby Petrocelli told the Tigers they need to think in terms of the voice on a GPS. When you miss your exit, you have to recalculate.

Through the first four Southeastern Conference games, which has included road losses to Florida and Mississippi by a combined 46 points, Missouri is having trouble recalculating when something goes awry.

"That means you've to be able to change directions," Missouri coach Frank Haith said Monday. "We don't recalculate very well. We don't stay in the present. We tend to not let things emotionally effect us. That's an exercise we've got to get better at, in terms of just being able to stay in the present, in terms of moving forward. Within the game, there's going to be adversity."

Petrocelli's wife was killed in 1985 when a drunk driver plowed into their home at 70 mph while they were sleeping.
