Martin brings distinctive style back to Mizzou Arena

Not even switching conferences could get Missouri away from Frank Martin.

The former Kansas State coach, who has had Missouri's number at times in his career, brings his South Carolina Gamecocks to Mizzou Arena to take on the Tigers at 6 p.m. today (ESPNUTV).

"I like to call it smash-mouth basketball," Missouri coach Frank Haith said of Martin's teams. "That's the way they play. They are going to test your manhood. They are going to come after us. That's part of his teams, the way they play defensively."

Kansas State accounted for two of Missouri's five losses last year. The Wildcats dominated the Tigers in a 75-59 victory in Manhattan (Kan.) before later handing Missouri its only home loss of the season, 76-68.

Missouri (13-4, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) will be without leading scorer Laurence Bowers for the fourth straight game as he continues to recover from a sprained MCL in his right knee.

The Tigers received more bad news on the injury front as forward Keion Bell is likely out after injuring his ankle late in Saturday's loss to Florida. Guard Earnest Ross is questionable with a back injury he suffered after hitting the floor hard in the final minutes of last week's win against Alabama.
