This is in reply to Cal Winter's letter "Christians Doctrine Based on Terror."
In 1958 Pope John XXIII brought the mother church into the 20th century when he said Freemasons could be Catholics. Pope Clement XII had excommunicated them in 1738.
In 1960 he said isn't it wonderful that Jesus was willing to shed his blood for us. He did not say Jesus died on the cross for us. Millions had died in battle or been burned at the stake over the issue of whether Jesus was mortal or not.
Millions also believed that Jesus survived a planned crucification and escaped with his wife and family to Marseilles, France. A book "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" copyrights by Dell in 1982 is one of many that refer to this unproved legend.
In the Jefferson City library is a book "James Brother of Jesus" that mentions his four brothers and two sisters. Roman and Eastern orthodox religions mentions them but calls them cousins.
There is a well-known story of three Magi coming to Jesus' birth. Those who practiced Magi were called Magicians. Magi are the priests of the Zoroastrians. Zoroastrains are in the Bible in the book of Ezra where Cyrus the Great frees the Jews from captivity and provided them with funds to rebuild the temple at Jerusalem. Some theorize Jesus was a Magi.
Zoroastrians were the universal religion of the world except for Egyptians and pagan Greeks for thousands of years before Christianity.
The Muslims conquests overcame them and they were persecuted almost to extinction. Today the remnant that remains in India do not attempt to spread their faith. They are well thought of by scholars of contemporary religions who call it the "happy religion" because it does not say man was born in sin and must atone for it (dollars accepted.)
Zoroastrians believe in the struggle of good against evil, the search for knowledge, and preservation of the environment.
Herein lies a great opportunity for a morally driven person to use modern methods like a web site to renew this ancient and worthy religion.
