A Tuscumbia woman was sentenced to 40 years in prison after she was found guilty on charges in connection with the death of a 2-year-old child in February 2008.
On Friday, Judge Stan Moore followed a jury's recommendation that Cheryl A. Patrick, 23, serve 20 years for murder and 20 years for child abuse. The sentences will run consecutively.
Patrick was charged with killing her boyfriend's daughter, 28-month-old Alexis Ward. Patrick, who was 18 at the time of the crime, was Alexis' regular caretaker.
