When Monsignor Robert A. Kurwicki was ordained a priest in Jefferson City in 1985, he never thought he would work in state government. He was mistaken.

This legislative session is his second serving as chaplain for the Missouri House of Representatives. He opens every session in the House with a prayer, visits House members if they are sick or hospitalized and preaches in front of the House when voted to do so by members.

"I have to tell you, that last one I have not yet done," Kurwicki said. "It's usually used in times of emergency, such as 9/11."
