Nixon fills spots on university governing boards

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed people to the governor boards for several universities.

On Friday, Nixon named three Democrats to the Truman State University Board of Governors. The governor appointed Sarah Burkemper, an accountant from Troy; James O'Donnell, a funeral home director from Hannibal; and Susan Plassmeyer, who previously worked for Washington University in St. Louis.

Nixon also appointed Winston Rutledge, of Jefferson City, to the Lincoln University Board of Curators. Rutledge has worked as a juvenile court administrator and an assistant school superintendent.

Two student representatives also were appointed to their university's governing board. Nixon appointed Paige Jenkins, of Bolivar, for the Missouri State University governing board and David Sigars, of Neosho, for the board at Missouri Southern State University.

The appointments require Senate confirmation.
