A Fulton man pleaded guilty Monday to robbing banks in Sedalia, Chillicothe, Cuba, Moberly and Rolla.
John David Farnell, 61, already is serving a 13-year, 6-month federal prison sentence, without parole, for his conviction in a separate bank robbery case that was prosecuted in the federal court's Eastern District of Missouri.
Under federal law, his new guilty plea could result in a new sentence of up to 25 years in federal prison without parole, and up to a $250,000 fine.
His sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the U.S. Probation Office completes its presentence investigation in the new case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Lynn.
Farnell pleaded guilty Monday during an appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Matt J. Whitworth in the Western District's Jefferson City courthouse.
He admitted to stealing $11,540 from the Excel Bank in Sedalia, on Aug. 10, 2009.
In that robbery, he entered the bank carrying a gym bag and immediately approached a teller, set the bag on the counter, pointed a black, long-barrelled handgun at her and told her not to make a sound, according to the U.S attorney.
Farnell then told the teller to give him $20, $50 and $100 bills.
