Defense leads Lincoln women past Southwest Baptist

Blue Tigers use 14-0 run in second half to get MIAA victory

The Lincoln women forced Southwest Baptist into a stretch of 6:10 without a point and 7:35 without field goals in the second half Saturday afternoon, using a 14-0 run during that span to turn a three-point deficit into an 11-point lead.

That spurred the Blue Tigers on to a 77-65 victory in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association matchup at Jason Gym in Jefferson City.

"I think we're a caliber of team that can play defense when we want to play defense," Lincoln head coach Nicole Collier said. "We can get out and defend. (The Bearcats) have everybody on their team that can shoot the 3. So we wanted to make sure we pressured them, make them uncomfortable around the 3-point line and turn them into a different player than what they're used to doing. I thought we did a good job of that."
