Trial set for man accused of killing couple

After more than three years, the murder trial of a Jefferson City man accused of killing a couple in September 2009 is on schedule to take place.

The trial of David Hosier, 57, will begin the week of Jan. 14.

Court officials believe it may take a couple of days to pick a jury, which will be chosen in Clay County and brought to Cole County for the trial.

Hosier is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, first-degree burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the deaths of Rodney and Angela Gilpin, who were killed with multiple gunshot wounds.

Rodney was 61. Angela was 45.

Police and family members said they had been separated, but were working on a reconciliation at the time of their deaths.

Investigators said Hosier and Angela had developed a relationship during that time of separation.

But, according to court documents, Angela Gilpin had been trying to end a relationship with Hosier "for approximately two months."

She also had sought an order of protection against Hosier and had appeared at the Cole County Courthouse for a scheduled hearing on her request, but officers never were able to serve Hosier with a notice of that hearing, and he didn't show.
