BOLIVAR - St. Elizabeth ran into a buzzsaw in the state's No. 1 team.
Walnut Grove cruised to a 78-52 victory Wednesday night in a Class 1 sectional game at Southwest Baptist University.
"They're good," St. Elizabeth coach Sheila Heckemeyer said of Walnut Grove. "Every one of them can shoot. They run, they get it and they're gone. They really, truly are No. 1."
Walnut Grove opened up a 20-13 lead after one quarter and increased it to 38-24 at halftime. It was more of the same in the second half.
"We turned it over a bunch of times and they got some quick baskets," Heckemeyer said.
The lead was 58-34 after three quarters.
Savannah Stiles paced St. Elizabeth with 22 points. Allie Heckemeyer added 14 points and Megan Kemna had 12.
Heather Harmon had 29 points to lead Walnut Grove (27-2) which plays the winner of tonight's Drexel-Bunceton game Saturday in the state quarterfinals.
