Palmyra rallies past Blair Oaks

MEXICO - The Palmyra Lady Panthers outscored the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons 9-2 in the final 1:37 Wednesday night to take a 55-49 decision in a Class 3 sectional contest.

Blair Oaks led 13-12 after one quarter, then outscored Palmyra 20-11 in the second period to take a 33-23 advantage into intermission.

Palmyra came back to cut the deficit to 41-38 heading into the final period.

The two teams traded points for much of the final quarter, with Blair Oaks holding a 47-46 advantage with 1:37 left.

"We just couldn't put the ball in the hole in the second half," Blair Oaks coach Leroy Bernskoetter said.

LeeAnn Polowy finished with 15 points to lead three Lady Falcons in double figures. Amanda Rackers added 12, while Darian Werdehausen chipped in with 10.

Blair Oaks, ranked No. 2 in the final Class 3 state poll, ends its season at 25-3.

"It was a great season for us," Bernskoetter said. "I just wish it could have gone on for a few more games."

Palmyra (24-5) advances to Saturday's quarterfinal against North Tech (19-6) at Moberly Area Community College. Game time is 7:45 p.m.
