Your Opinion: Kehoe's utility surcharge backed

Dear Editor:

The bill recently proposed by Sen. Mike Kehoe to allow Missouri electric utilities to place a surcharge on their customers to improve infrastructure makes perfect sense.

The recent hullabaloo in letters to the editor by some contributors condemning Kehoe's proposal are pure liberal nonsense.

If liberals had their way, America would not be generating electricity using coal or nuclear plants. They would be proposing solar energy and wind power to provide our electrical needs. Wind and solar power have their place but it is not realistic to think wind and solar could provide the energy that Missouri needs.

If the surcharge by electric utilities in Missouri is approved think of the jobs that would create in our state.

Improved electric utilities infrastructure created by the surcharge would decrease the number of power outages and improve integrity of the electrical systems. We are blessed to have a company such as Ameren providing much of Missouri with electricity and natural gas.

Sen. Mike Kehoe deserves our backing.
