Two Jefferson City residents were arrested early Friday morning for property destruction.

According to police reports, at about 2 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East High Street for a suspicious activity call.

A witness contacted police after observing two male suspects vandalizing mailboxes and street signs in that area.

Officers arrived within moments of the call and approached the suspects.

Both were identified by the witness as the suspects and both were subsequently arrested for the property destruction.

They were later identified as Derek Schlueter, 24, and Carson Lako, 21.

After placing them under arrest, officers found items, such as stickers and permanent markers, used to deface property and which matched the areas vandalized.

In addition, an inventory search of Schlueter's vehicle revealed stolen street signs and marked police department traffic cones, a small quantity of marijuana and marijuana smoking paraphernalia, and multiple cans of spray paint.

Schlueter is facing charges of second-degree property damage, two counts of receiving stolen property and possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lako is facing a charge of second-degree property damage.
