LU's Hylton earns track honor

Donna-Lee Hylton of Lincoln has been named the NCAA Division II Women's Track National Athlete of the Week.

Hylton ran the fastest time this season in the 400-meter dash at the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., winning the event in 54.56. It is the fastest of just three automatic qualifying times for the upcoming NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 400.

The junior from Kingston, Jamaica, also ran the ninth-fastest time this season in the 200-meter dash at the Invitational, finishing in 24.38.

Latoya King of Lincoln was honorable mention for the award after running a Division II-best 7.37 in the 60-meter dash.

The award, announced Monday, is selected by the United States Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association.

Lincoln will run at the Iowa State Classic this weekend.
