The final sales tax numbers for Jefferson City's 2013 fiscal year are in and, despite revised projections, receipts fell short of the city's expected goals.
December receipts showed each of the city's sales taxes falling short of projections, with the 1 percent general sales tax coming in $44,087 behind projections for the year, which is less than 1 percent of the projected $9.7 million in sales tax revenues.

Though the city's fiscal year ended Oct. 31, sales taxes are reported throughout the calendar year. The December receipts actually reflect the October reporting period for sales tax figures.
December receipts, for the October reporting period, showed the 1 percent general sales tax coming in $50,298 behind the month's projections, a steep fall from November receipts, which reflect the September reporting period, that showed the tax coming in nearly $62,000 above projections.
The half-cent capital improvement sales tax also fell behind, bringing the year-end total to $35,420 less than budgeted. The half-cent parks sales tax came closest to projections, but still missed the mark with year-end totals coming to $4,865 lower than expected. Both sales taxes also came in less than 1 percent behind projections.
December receipts showed the half-cent capital improvement sales tax fell $56,295 behind projections for the October reporting period, another large fall from November receipts, which showed the tax coming in $55,046 above projections.
For the half-cent parks sales tax, December receipts showed the tax came in $51,901 behind projections for the October reporting period. November receipts had shown the tax ahead of projections by $59,033.
The city had revised its sales tax projections early this year when officials revealed an expected $1.68 million shortfall for the 2013 fiscal year.
At a Finance Committee meeting in November, interim Finance Director Bill Betts said he estimated the city's totals for the fiscal year would be within one percent of projections. At the time, Betts said though some areas would fall short of projections, others were coming in above projections and, on the whole, the budget should balance out.
The city had projected revenues of $31.2 million for the 2013 fiscal year.
