Lincoln's Woodard to play in American Bowl

Lincoln wide receiver Maurice Woodard was recently invited to play in the 2013 American Bowl, an All-Star game for the top players in NCAA Division II, Division III and the NAIA.

The American Bowl, now in its third year of existence, annually pits American football players against football players from Mexico in an international competition.

The game will be played Saturday, Dec. 14, at the University of Mexico Stadium in Mexico City.

Woodard is Lincoln's career receptions leader, having caught 143 passes in four years for the Blue Tigers. Woodard's best season came in 2012 when he had 68 receptions for 705 yards - both marks ranking as the second-most in a single season by a Lincoln receiver.

This season, Woodard caught a team-high 48 passes for 372 yards and one touchdown.

In his career as a Blue Tiger, Woodard, an all-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association honorable mention selection last season, scored seven touchdowns and amassed more than 1,200 receiving yards.
