A Jefferson City woman, accused of stealing unemployment benefits from the state, was indicted this week by the Cole County grand jury.
Somonia Westbrooks, 43, is believed to have stolen benefits between November 2010 and September 2011. The amount stolen was between $500 and $25,000.
She told officials with the Missouri Division of Employment Security she was unemployed when in fact she was employed and earning wages.
The indictment means the case can move on to the circuit court level where it could go to trial.
Because this was a suppressed indictment, a probable cause statement from authorities about their investigation was not part of the public document on file with the circuit clerk's office.
