Body in river identified as man from Russellville

The body found floating in the Missouri River Saturday morning at Jefferson City has been identified as a Cole County man.

Jefferson City Police on Monday reported the dead man was Christopher E. Durbin, 38, of 7803 Route AA, Russellville, Mo.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, Jefferson City Police were contacted by officials from the Union Pacific Railroad who reported seeing a body floating in the Missouri River on the north end of Chestnut Street, near the site of the former Missouri State Penitentiary.

Officers arrived and located the body. The Jefferson City Fire Department and the Cole County Sheriff's Department assisted in retrieving the body from the river.

Jefferson City Police detectives and the Cole County Sheriff's Department conducted an investigation.

Police reported they are not disclosing any information about the condition of the body. An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted on the body on Monday.

Detectives reported nothing is ruled out concerning the death investigation and no further information will be released on Monday.
