BizBeat: Oscar's Diner hits home stretch in renovations

August 25th, 2013 in News

Renovations are in full force to the Schotthill Woods Drive diner that closed earlier this year after a Jan. 30 fire, owners Lisa and Kurt Mankin said Friday.

Oscar's Classic Diner in Jefferson City is expected to reopen in early- to mid-October. The property is adding a 1,200 square-foot banquet room in addition to the renovations needed from fire damage. The new area will house nearly 80 people, with partitions available for smaller parties. The Mankins will also be offering up family-style meals of fried chicken, roast beef and country ham to groups of 18 or more.

"We've got the drywall going up," Lisa said. "We were able to put in improvements everywhere we could."

She noted that the outside is complete, aside from the installation of a barrel-style awning.

Throughout the rebuilding process, the Oscar's menu is also getting a new look. Lisa said the diner has created a new heart-healthy, diabetic and gluten-free section.

As fall nears, keep an eye out on Oscar's Facebook page for the grand reopening event.
